Winter Fitness, What’s #1?

Enjoying outdoor activities is a great way to get your body moving and have some fun. With winter coming here in Vermont, many of my clients are getting geared up to hunker down and take their activities solely indoors.

What if there was a way to keep up those outdoor activities while burning unwanted fat and building lean muscle mass?

What is this magical way to get outside, enjoy the chill of winter, and get your sweat on? It’s called snowshoeing, and the best part is, if you can walk, you can snowshoe!

This winter fitness activity gets you out of doors, breathing the fresh wintry air, getting your heart pumping and your muscles working, all while working on your balance, stability and agility in beautiful the winter wonderland.

Snow shoeing offers a variety of fitness benefits making it a top choice workout activity in winter.

You can vary the intensity of your experience according to your fitness level and desired exertion level. Take a stroll on flat terrain if you are just starting out, or just getting back into working out, or simply want to relax. Choose a combination of flat and rolling hills to step it up a notch. For those advanced snow shoe hikers you’ll want to plan some elevation and more challenging, varied terrain for your outing.

If you’ve never gone snow shoeing, consider hooking up with a snow shoe tour group, or friends who have some experience and can guide you through your first time.

Snow shoe hiking offers a great cardiovascular workout along with challenging your strength, endurance, stability and agility. Nature’s beauty is all around you as you snow shoe hike through the woods, or along an open trail or on the rolling hills of a golf course. The wintry white blanket brings a stillness that soothes as you pump your muscles, get your breath flowing, and steer yourself along the snow filled trail.

Here in central Vermont, in the heart of the Green Mountains, we are blessed with the beauty of nature all year round. Winter brings it’s own kind of beauty, and I am grateful for the many ways we can enjoy winter, and keep warm through the coldest months.
